Over the years, Guatemala has produced many famous characters. On this web page, I will introduce 3 of them. The first one
is Ricardo Arjona. Arjona is an Award Winning Guatemalan singer. He is best known for his use of political and social satire
in his music. Some of Ricardo's albums include "Dejame Decir Que Te Amo", which translates to English as "Let Me Say I Love
You", "Historias" or "Stories", and "Si El Norte Fuera El Sur" or "If North Were South".
Another famous figure from Guatemala is Rigoberta Menchu. Rigoberta is an indigenous Guatemalan. Along with being the recipient
for many peace awards, she has written a book on peace, Crossing Borders, and was the subject for the book, I, Rigoberta Menchu.
She has just recently announced that she will be running in the 2007 presendial election. Being elected is a great honor,
and Rigoberta has much faith in herself.
The last person that you will learn about on this web page is Luis Argueta. Luis is a critically acclaimed film director.
One of his films in particular, "El Silencio de Neto", or "The Silence of Neto", is was among the best of the foreign films
nominated in the 67th annual academy awards. His movies often depict Latin America, and the struggle for peace.
